LThis "portfolio" site explains the use of more than 15 different methods to design user experience, specifically for software, hardware and physical environments. From research and analysis through design, these techniques customize design and development strategy based on the constraints and goals of the project -- from the users' perspective. The work of "interaction design" requiresdifferent approaches to design challenges. Knowing what questions to ask, where to find good information, how to turn user requirements into design. . . these and other insights are gained through experience.
I am the Senior User Researcher for the User-Centered Design team in the Voice Technology Division of Cisco Systems in San Jose, California. I study how people communicate, what their goals and triggers are, and map their unmet needs as requirements to design projects for all kinds of voice-based communication devices and appliances. Unifying communications is at the heart of the work.
